Celtic Memorial Knife Box
This custom knife box was commissioned in memorial of my client's younger brother who recently passed away. This beautiful hunting knife was the last Christmas gift from my client to his brother, and he wanted a special box to display the knife and a photo.
The box bears a Celtic initial with an entwined serpent forming the letter "C" for Connor. The front of the box bears an inscription with Connor's full name and dates.
This custom knife box is 14" x 6.5" x 3". In this case, because the Damascus steel hunting knife was such a complicated shape, the client actually sent it to me, so we could ensure the proper fit. That allowed me to truly customize the padded insert for it, padded with foam and lined in green velvet.
Damascus steel is prone to rust, but the interlocking lip of this hardwood maple box should minimize exposure and protect it well. Twin antique brass swing hasps keep the box securely closed.
The velvet-lined insert tray lifts completely out of the box, revealing an additional storage compartment below. This will hold the sheath for the knife, along with any other mementos of his brother.
My client wanted to display a 4x6 photo of himself and his brother in the box. I crafted a frame for his photo out of genuine leather, inspired by the leather knife sheath. The frame has brass studs in the corners and is fronted by clear plexiglass to protect the photo. The photo slides in from the side and is held in place by the secure fit.
